Our research team launched high-interaction honeypots on the Internet from which they collected screen, keyboard, mouse, and metadata from the malicious hackers under the form of video recording of all their actions. The observations of the data set allow our team to identify five profiles of behavior described in this presentation. The information represents never-seen-before high-level IOCs in the form of Tools, Tactics and Procedures (TTPs). They exposed this research so a) blue teams can protect themselves but also craft their own traps, b) let CERTs and law enforcement know about these interception capabilities and put them to use to win the battle against ransomware and c) let the attackers know we are collecting this level of information. If attackers are scared enough, they will have to change their strategies, and this will influence their attacks’ cost-benefit.
